Teresa's Telegram was the original Fan Club newsletter created by Alma Thurmond, founder and first president of the Fan Club. In the first years of the club, Teresa's Telegram was published every two months, except during the July/August summer break.|
The Telegrams were formatted as compact, 20-page news "magazines" containing commentary by the Fan Club President, information about Teresa's recordings and appearances, pictures, poetry, movie reviews, reprints of letters to the Fan Club, articles about other contemporary artists, and much more.
Teresa was very involved with the Fan Club and contributed articles and rare photos for use in Teresa's Telegram. Coral Records also provided up-to-the-minute information on the releases of new singles and albums - information that was routinely reported in the Telegrams.
Mary Ann Lovaas took over as president of the Fan Club and editor/publisher of Teresa's Telegram in 1960. The format and general content of the Telegrams was little changed through 1962 when the first Fan Club was discontinued.
The current Fan Club, headed by Bill Munroe, has made reprints of selected issues of Teresa's Telegram available on the website. For long-time Teresa Brewer fans, looking through the Telegrams will be an enjoyable trip down "memory lane." For younger fans, the Telegrams give an interesting perspective of Teresa's life, skyrocketing career -- and the passion of her fans -- told as it was happening.
