First Professional Gig?
(Jul 2007) Q: BEVERLY: I don’t know if you have answered this before but can you tell us the name of the first song you ever sang professionally. I’ve heard a recording of your singing “Darktown Strutters’ Ball” when you were seven years old and I wonder if this was it? A: TERESA: “Does being paid with cupcakes qualify? (laughs) If that’s the case, then the first song I sang professionally was ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame.’ It was on a local Toledo radio station and I was about two-and-a-half years old. The sponsor of the show was a bakery and, at one point, my mother made a dress for me out of bread wrappers!” Teresa in her "bread wrapper" dress. |
