Teresa's Hits - Or Not!
Q: ROBERT: Like everyone else who writes, I love you and your terrific singing – and have all my life. Who can ever forget your wonderful hits: “If I Knew You Were Coming (I’d’ve Baked a Cake),” “Come On-a My House,” “Music! Music! Music!” and “Wheel of Fortune”? Thanks for all the enjoyment you brought into my life!
A: TERESA: "I can claim only ‘Music! Music! Music!.’ (laughs) The rest were very big hits – all number ones, I think – for other artists. Over the years, so many people have mistaken me for Kay Starr. And a lot have thought that I sang ‘Baked a Cake’ and some Rosemary Clooney novelty song. I used to joke that I should include in my act a medley of songs that people thought I sang!"
Additional note: Teresa’s right. “If I Knew You Were Coming (I’d’ve Baked a Cake),” “Come On-a My House” and “Wheel of Fortune” were #1 hits for, respectively, Eileen Barton, Rosemary Clooney and Kay Starr.
